Images of them pass through her mind, of her father, her mother, brother. She runs, runs as fast as she can, but he is quicker. She is becoming out of breath but she still runs, runs as fast as she can, but he outruns her easily.
She still thinks about the moment he entered her house as a guest and future partner of her father. But suddenly everything changed, her father’s throat cut in the living room, her mother decapitated in the kitchen, her brother stabbed in the chest while protecting her. That gives her strength, so she runs, runs as fast as she can.
She runs into a clearing, runs for her life, where the moon shines, on the far side a cliff wall delimits her escape. She runs, runs as fast as she can, looking for someplace to hide, some hole on the wall, but there is none.
There he is, on the other side of the clearing, looking at her, at her despair and laughs. Without a place to escape she prays. She prays for her family, she prays for her, she prays for the world, she prays… for him. Then standing up in her imposing 12 years of life, looks with determination at the very last eyes she will ever see.
Is faith really a good thing? It can make us do terrible thing like the holocaust, inquisition, the witches of Salem, among many others. But it can also give us love, bounds, and determination do so the impossible and the unexplainable.
